Thank You Note for a Donation

Donors, sponsors and volunteers keep charities and community projects going. A personal thank-you note — rather than a standard receipt — tells them exactly what their gift made possible, which is one of the best ways to keep them involved.

Use the donor, fundraiser or volunteer template, add the impact of their gift, and download notes to print or email.

Click the page to edit the message. Replace the [bracketed] words with your own.

How to write a donation & charity note

  • Thank the donor by name and mention the campaign or cause.
  • Explain the impact in concrete terms — "your gift funds a week of meals".
  • For sponsors of a personal challenge, share the total raised.
  • Thank volunteers for their time and energy, not just the outcome.
  • Keep any official tax receipt separate from the personal note.

How do I thank people who sponsored my fundraiser?

Thank them for supporting you, share the total raised and what it will fund, and tell them how the event went.
