Thank You Note for a Gift
A gift deserves more than a quick "thanks!" in a message thread. A short handwritten note tells the giver you noticed their thoughtfulness — and it is the part of the exchange people remember. This page gives you ready-made gift thank-you templates you can edit right on the page, in a natural handwriting style.
Choose a template for a present, a gift card or cash, or a handmade gift, replace the bracketed words with the details, pick a page style, and download your note to print or send.

How to write a thank you for a gift note
- Name the gift. "Thank you for the blue scarf" feels far warmer than "thank you for the gift".
- Say how you will use it, or how you already have. It shows the gift landed well.
- For money or gift cards, mention what you plan to spend it on rather than the amount.
- For handmade gifts, recognise the time and skill that went into it.
- Keep it to three to five sentences and finish with a warm closing such as "With love" or "Gratefully".

Frequently asked questions
What do you write in a thank you note for a gift?
Greet the person, name the gift, say what you love about it or how you will use it, add a personal line about the giver, and close warmly. For example: "Thank you for the cookbook — I have already tried the lemon cake and it was a hit."
How do I thank someone for a gift of money?
Thank them for their generosity and mention what you plan to use it for, such as saving for a trip or buying something specific. It is usual not to mention the exact amount.
Is a handwritten thank you note better than a text?
A text is fine for close friends and small favours, but a handwritten note shows more effort and is more memorable, especially for older relatives, wedding guests and formal gifts.
What if I did not like the gift?
Thank the person for their thoughtfulness rather than the item itself: "Thank you for thinking of me on my birthday — it was so kind of you to remember."
Can I send one note to a group who gave a joint gift?
Yes. Address it to everyone, or send it to the organiser and ask them to share it. If you know each person well, individual notes are even better.
Can I print the note on card?
Yes. Choose the 5 × 7 in card or A6 page size, download the PDF and print at 100% scale on card stock.
